With 15 years of experience shooting weddings, we’ve put together a list of 20 questions to ask your wedding photographer.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

We are wedding photojournalists, or ninjas if you prefer!

You can read more about our style by clicking here. We spend a wedding day capturing the story of your day, unobtrusively.

We observe your wedding day as it unfolds, naturally and without direction. We work very close to the action and try to blend in with the guests as much as possible. We are not going to ask you to “pretend” to do your make-up!

Our clients understand that this involves capturing the real moments and memories from their wedding day – rather than fabricated and set-up photos that don’t tell a story at all.

WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES?

HOW MANY HOURS WILL YOU BE AT OUR WEDDING?

As long as you need me! I offer packages of 6 hours / 8 hours / 10 hours or Unlimited Coverage. Shorter coverage is also available.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU DOCUMENTING OUR DAY. BUT WE HAVE A TIGHT BUDGET. DO YOU OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS?

The short answer is sorry, we don’t. However, please get in touch and let me know what you’re thinking and we can see if we can work something out.

MY WEDDING MAY BE DIFFERENT TO THE WEDDINGS ON YOUR SITE. WOULD YOU STILL SHOOT IT?

Weddings are about people, and that will be our focus. We are not really concerned with the weather of the other surroundings. We are there to document your unique story, and, no doubt, it will be incredible!

DO YOU PHOTOGRAPH ALONE OR DO YOU HAVE A SECOND SHOOTER?

Usually, my wife Hazel and I shoot weddings as a team. We do offer one photographer coverage should that be more suitable for you.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE GET?

The average has been between 400 and 600 images for the wedding day.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL BE EDITED?

All images in the collection you receive will be edited, corrected, and adjusted for optimal colour balance and skin tone. This way, all of your images will have the Ian MacMichael Photography signature look.

WHEN DO WE RECEIVE OUR IMAGES?

It takes about 3 to 4 weeks for the images to be ready. I might post a couple of previews before then, just to let you know they are nearly done!

HOW DO WE GET OUR EDITED IMAGES?

Images are delivered via a password-protected online gallery. You can download them as 300dpi full resolution and use them for prints and albums.

DO YOU MAKE WEDDING ALBUMS?

I offer only the finest wedding albums currently available in the world. These are made by Queensberry in New Zealand.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I have professional equipment with spares of everything. However, the most important items to me are my heart and emotions.

DO YOU HAVE BACKUP EQUIPMENT AND INSURANCE?

Yes!

DO YOU USE ANY LIGHTING EQUIPMENT?

I absolutely love natural light. Of course, when necessary, I do have the lighting equipment I need for my style of shooting. However, I do shoot as much as I can in available light.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED PROFESSIONALLY BEFORE AND WE ARE QUITE CAMERA SHY,

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO WORK WITH US?

Absolutely! 

Most of the couples I photograph have not been professionally photographed before their wedding.  Your wedding is about celebrating and showing your love for each other, it is NOT about being photographed. We will NOT take over your day and make it about what we want and some contrived photographs. Enjoy your day and be yourself, that’s all you have to do!

If you are still a little concerned, why not think about booking a pre-wedding before the wedding.

WILL YOU NEED ANY FOOD DURING THE WEDDING?

We’d love to! However, we understand that it is not always possible, so it’s not a condition of our service, but if it’s there, we won’t say no!

WHEN SHOULD WE BOOK YOU?

Preferably as soon as possible. Every year some dates are more popular than others. Pre-wedding shoot sessions are normally around 1-2 months before the wedding date.

To secure the date, I require a £350 booking fee and a signed contract.
