Manchester Gorton Monastery Wedding Photography

We were so excited that Col and Heather asked us to be their Gorton Monastery wedding photographers! This was our hat-trick of wedding for this family. We previously shot Col’s sister’s wedding a couple of years ago and his brothers wedding before that. It is such an incredible privilege to be asked back by a family to shoot another wedding. So for us to get to do that 3 times, well, that was a real honour!

We had never photographed here before so we didn’t know how amazing it was! If you don’t know, Gorton Monastery is an old dis-used monastery hidden away near the centre of Manchester. To help fund its refurbishment, it has been transformed into a wedding venue! It has now become one of Manchester’s best!

Truly epic inside, it was jaw-dropping for us and all the guests! It has some remarkable original features and many items that were sold off have been relocated and bought back. An example of this is a huge crucifix which was brought back to the venue for a cool £375,000!!

The preparations.

Hazel met up with Heather and the girls her parents house. Meanwhile, I was with Col and the boys at another awesome building in Manchester, The Palace Hotel! After meeting the family again and saying hello to old friends, we headed off for the ceremony. From the ceremony, we all made our way to The Monastery.

The venue!

As the guests arrived, they were welcomed into a marquee in the shadow of the imposing Monastery building. There was a drinks reception before we moved into the main building, down a corridor and then BOOM! That room! It’s difficult to describe the impact of the size and scale of the room and what an incredible place for a wedding it is. as usual, we shot the group shots in around 15 minutes so no one was hanging around waiting and getting frustrated by the photographers.

The photographs…

As we always say, weddings are about people and not about being photographed, so we want to stay out of the way and record the true story, not tell everyone what to do. In fact, a couple of guests have left us Facebook reviews commenting specifically on this point, so we’re made up with that!

This was such an enjoyable wedding and we loved every second of it. We’re excited for the next time we get to shoot a Gorton Monastery wedding in Manchester. Here are just a few images from a truly memorable day….
